He graduated with the Rudolph Hanau Award for Excellence in Prosthodontics, a prestigious recognition of his exceptional skills in this specialized field. Following his graduation, he embarked on a distinguished five-year tenure in the United States Army, combining service to his country with further education and training. His commitment to excellence led him to undertake an intensive Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency, a pivotal experience that has profoundly shaped his approach to dentistry.

During his time in the Army, Dr. Cheng's service took him to various corners of the globe, including a notable four-year stint in Okinawa, Japan. Stationed in a unique and challenging environment, he not only provided essential dental care but also served as the unit commander and oversaw the oral health of a close-knit community of soldiers and their families. His military experience wasn't confined to traditional dental duties; he also collaborated with elite units such as Green Berets and Navy Seals, demonstrating adaptability and versatility in demanding situations, and completed the Advance Clinical Practice Program, where he underwent more rigorous training in comprehensive dentistry.
